This is a fabulous new blog feature here at Eli to the nth! Thanks to Genna from Reading, Writing, and the World of Words, who created this awesome feature and gave me the permission to host it here, as well as, use her cute graphic! Poetry is one of my passions, but I have yet to share it here. So this feature gives me the perfect opportunity to do so!I don't know about you guys, but I have those artists who speak to me through their music. The lyrics move my soul in a way that poetry does and, therefore, I label the songs poetry (with a chorus). Ani DiFranco is one such artist. Any of her songs I love and she also has a book of poems out titled Verses, which is where I got the following lines from. I hope you enjoy, and check Ani out! Her music is amazing!
"Bodily"
You broke me bodily
The heart ain't the half of it
And I'll never learn to laugh at it
In my good natured way
In fact I'm laughing less in general
But I learned a lot at my own funeral
And I knew you'd be the death of me
So I guess that's the price I pay
I'm trying to make new memories
In cities where we fell in love
My head just barely above
The darkest water I've ever known
You had me in that cage
You had me jumpin through those hoops for you
Still, I think I'd stoop for you
Stoop for your eyes alone
From that bomb shell moon in yet another lovely dress
To the deep mahogany sheen of a roach
I am trying to take an appreciative approach
To life in your wake
I focus on the quiet now
And occasionally I'll fall asleep somehow
And emptiness has its solace
In that there's nothing left to take
-Ani DiFranco
I love Ani! She is one of those strong female artists who is not afraid to speak her mind. Her lyrics are beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
