"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

I Love Books, Don't You?

We Love Books Tag
Started by RyanReadsBooks

What one book from your collection would you keep if all the rest had to be thrown out or taken away? (just one book!)
Each time you read, do you like to have something to munch on or to drink next to you?

Love of books: when did it start and what was one of the first books that you read?
One book you would never go back and re-read ever?
Very romantic or very full of action?
End of a book: cliffhanger or no cliffhanger?

Big books or small books?
Only one genre or a mixture?
Olden day books, present day, or future? (Victorian era type books, present day, or dystopian type books)
Katniss or Hermione?
Stand alone or Series?

Thoughts From an Acute Triangle (4)

Thoughts from an Acute Triangle is a feature I started where I discuss things related to books, authors, reading, or just me.  This is a place for me to be a little brainy or a little silly.  The conversation is always open for comments and if there is ever a topic you want me to discuss, please leave a comment!

I was up at 3am with some crazy insomnia.  This is what results from it.

A. Age: 23, nearly 24, which I really can't believe.  Am I too old to have a sleepover with cookie decorating?
B. Bed size: Twin...I need a new grown-up bed, but they're so expensive!!
C. Chore that you hate: I don’t like any chores. Only fun stuff please. I’m like a petulant child.
D. Dogs: Beagle/Bassett Hound mixes!  That's what my baby is.  Beagles are my family dog as well; Wooh Beagles!
E. Essential start to your day: Snooze button, snooze button, and more snooze button.  Then some juice.  Then some really obnoxious gangsta rap.  Yeah weird, I know.
F. Favorite color: I really enjoy bright colors but not neon bright: yellows, pinks, blues, & greens are my favorites.  Recently though, I've gotten really into gray for nail polish.
G. Gold or Silver: Silver has always been the go-to jewelry for me.  However, I do own some gold for those outfits that you just need gold for.
H. Height: 5'11&a half.  I'm JUST under 6' and I'm kinda pissed about it.
I. Instruments you play: I play the trumpet and the oboe.  Very different things to play, but I'm just so talented.
J. Job title: Graduate Student/Bookseller.  Not that I make too much money doing either, but that employee discount is one hell of a benefit.
K. Kids: Nada.
L. Live: Tampa, Florida, U.S.A  When it's nice outside, I love it.  When it pours for days I loathe it.  Alas, weather.
M. Mother’s name: Michele. With only ONE L; Don't screw it up.
N. Nicknames: My parents were very adamant that I be called Elizabeth growing up, but my best friends were always allowed to call me Lizzie.  Nowadays I answer to Elizabeth, Liz, Lizzie, Eli, or The Mayor...that one's a long story.
O. Overnight hospital stays: Huh...Why would the people who created this tag include this?  But just for the record, the only time was when I was born.  I turned yellow; it was a problem.
P. Pet peeves: I don't have enough time in the day, but really nasally voices are the worse, which I realize people don't have control over.  I'M SORRY MY PET PEEVE DISCRIMINATES BUT YOUR VOICE IS ANNOYING!!!
Q. Quote from a movie: "Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary." - John Keating (Robin Williams): Dead Poets Society
R. Right or left handed: Right is might.
S. Siblings: Older sister (28), who you've had the pleasure of meeting in my VALA videos.  Younger brother (15), who has also made a cameo in a video or two.  Love 'em.
T. Time you wake up: Well since I work very irregularly (which is so annoying), and my classes are on-line, I sleep 'til 10am.
U. Underwear: Ummm, another weird question.  1. Why wouldn't you wear them? 2. I wear hipsters.
V. Vegetable you hate: TOMATOES ARE THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE.
W. What makes you run late: Reading and blogging.  Oh and Youtube taking forever uploading my videos!!!
X. X-Rays you’ve had: Head and feet.  Not going to discuss why.
Y. Yummy food that you make: Also known as Yummy Food Others Make Me: Pumpkin Bread, SuperChocolate Brownies, and Stuffed Porkchops.  Damnit, I'm hungry now.
Z. Zoo animal: Penguins and owls all the way.  I also really love bears.  They look so cute, but can kill you so easily.  Same with tigers.  Stupid predators with big teeth!!

Okay, now that that's done I suppose I should go to bed....If you do this, link it below!  GOOD NIGHT!!

VALA: DAY 5

Full of books, nooks, and looks.
Sorry this was late, I went to go see Rise of the Planet of the Apes, so I didn't get a chance to upload earlier. (I also don't have a handy link in which you can click to buy the tickets. What good am I?)But you should still go see it, because it was pretty awesome.
More on it tomorrow!

VLOG A LOT in AUGUST (VALA): 30 Days of Books

Around the Youtubes there's been a lot of VEDA (Vlog Every Day in August (April)), Vlogust, and VALA (Vlog A Lot in August) going on. I've decided to participate by combining the 30 Day Book Meme and VALA. So each day (hopefully...that's why I'm doing VALA and NOT VEDA) I'll post a Book Day video.

This video comes to you at 2:00 AM and has Day 1-3...Enjoy my puffy eyes and horrible hair!

Top 5 (03)

Hosted by Larissa over at Larissa's Life

Rules:
1 - Write a post listing your TOP 5 choices within the theme Larissa chose for the week.
2 - Mention her blog on the post and link back to it.
3 - Feel free to use the Feature's image (there is a smaller size version of it below Larissa's post)
4 - After you've finished your post, add your link (of the post, not your blog's main page) to the
Mr.Linky at the end of that week's post on Larissa's blog.

This week’s theme is Favorite Book Quotes!

  1.     "Books are the ultimate Dumpees: put them down and they'll wait for you forever; pay attention to them and they always love you back."
  2.  "You can never have too much sky . You can fall asleep and wake up drunk on sky, and sky can keep you safe when you are sad. Here there is too much sadness and not enough sky. Butterflies too are few and so are flowers and most things that are beautiful. Still, we take what we can get and make the best of it."
  3.  "The important people in our lives leave imprints. They may stay or go in the physical realm, but they are always there in your heart, because they helped form your heart. There's no getting over that."
  4. "Investigation?" Isabelle laughed. "Now we're detectives? Maybe we should all have code names." "Good idea," said Jace. "I shall be Baron Hotschaft Von Hugenstein."
  5.  "And while I was talking, the idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realized how much I don't want him to die. And it's not about the sponsors. And it's not about what will happen when we get home. And it's not just that I don't want to be alone. It's him. I do not want to lose the boy with the bread."
All such good good good books!  It was so hard to narrow it down, luckily my Goodreads quote page is stocked full!  Happy Reading!  And may the odds be ever in your favor!

Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...

  1. When I have over-medium eggs, I cut off the whites, eat them separately, then scoop the entire yolk up and eat it in one go.
  2. When I'm thinking I suck air through my front teeth, making a squeaky sound.
  3. I eat each section of my food one at a time.
  4. I only use pink or yellow highlighters
  5. I have to color coordinate my school supplies.
WHAT A WEIRDO!

Things That Make Me Smile (01)

New thing I'm trying out.  Similar to Daily Dose hosted by Good Golly Miss Holly and Tilt: Things I Love Thursday hosted by Gala Darling (You guys should check out both blogs. GGMH is an awesome book blog and GD is an inspiring lifestyle blog).  So in "Things That Make Me Smile" I'm going to be posting pictures, videos, links to things that make me smile or that I've been loving lately.  Please enjoy and feel free to link to your Daily Dose or Tilt or anything you do on your blog that makes you smile!
  1. The FREE Angry Bird app for Google Chrome!  I can't stop playing, it's an obsession.
  2. Watched RENT for the 25th time today!  La Vie Boheme is my favorite scene and everyone should watch it once.
  3. Black and WTF.  This is the funniest Tumblr.  It shows weird ass black and white pictures, and they are super entertaining.
  4. Plume Feather Hair Extensions!  I WANT!!!!!  They looks so cool and this is pretty much the last summer I can have something crazy like this in my hair.
  5. Florida roll, Florida roll Florida roll.  This sushi is delicious. I must go to Soho Sushi like twice a week at least.

Let me know what you guys think about the new feature!

TRUTH or DARE?

Parajunkee is hosting an awesome event TRUTH or DARE!  With each TRUTH or DARE she's giving away a $20 Books-A-Million giftcard (at BAM! that can go a long way; they have tons of clearance).

This Thursday (I'm a little behind) was a DARE:
Post about your favorite Book Boyfriend or Girlfriend. Who would you love to see step out of a book and into your living room? (Has to be from a paranormal since this is Paranormal Truth or Dare)

Okay I'm loving this!  Now I'm not a HUGE reader of Paranormal books, however I do read Laurel K. Hamilton; her Merry Gentry series is my favorite.  And within this series are Sidhe (faeries) both Seelie ("good") and Unseelie ("bad").  This books focus on Meredith Gentry, Princess of the Unseelie Court, and her many many men.  And when I say many I mean like 10 (maybe more, I lose count sometimes).

ANYWAY, the reason I'm brining this all up, is in order to answer the question.
I want Doyle from the Meredith Gentry books to please step out of the pages and just take me...ahem.
He is gorgeous, loyal, strong, and just very much a man.  On top of that he is Fae and full of magic! Yeah, definitely my dream man.  Here's some history about Doyle:
Captain of the Queen's Ravens. Often referred to as the Queen's Darkness (or simply as my Darkness by the Queen.) He was the Queens "right hand" for nearly 1050 years, during much of that time he was deeply in love with the Queen and server her out of loyalty and love, but she refused to ever bed him because she believed that if she were to bore his child his would be a true king, and she refused to share power with any. When Merry was named heir apparent, he became Merry's Darkness, as well as her Lover & future King to her Queen. Hes as black as the night and can transform into a black mastiff, a massive eagle, and a black stallion.

Yep, be still my heart.  What about you?

Poetry Sunday (01)

This is a fabulous new blog feature here at Eli to the nth!  Thanks to Genna from Reading, Writing, and the World of Words, who created this awesome feature and gave me the permission to host it here, as well as, use her cute graphic!  Poetry is one of my passions, but I have yet to share it here.  So this feature gives me the perfect opportunity to do so!

I'm starting it off right with one of my favorite, favorite poems about writing and being a writer.

so you want to be a writer

by Charles Bukowski
if it doesn't come bursting out of you
in spite of everything,
don't do it.
unless it comes unasked out of your
heart and your mind and your mouth
and your gut,
don't do it.
if you have to sit for hours
staring at your computer screen
or hunched over your
typewriter
searching for words,
don't do it.
if you're doing it for money or
fame,
don't do it.
if you're doing it because you want
women in your bed,
don't do it.
if you have to sit there and
rewrite it again and again,
don't do it.
if it's hard work just thinking about doing it,
don't do it.
if you're trying to write like somebody
else,
forget about it.

if you have to wait for it to roar out of
you,
then wait patiently.
if it never does roar out of you,
do something else.

if you first have to read it to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or to anybody at all,
you're not ready.

don't be like so many writers,
don't be like so many thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
don't be dull and boring and
pretentious, don't be consumed with self-
love.
the libraries of the world have
yawned themselves to
sleep
over your kind.
don't add to that.
don't do it.
unless it comes out of
your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or murder,
don't do it.
unless the sun inside you is
burning your gut,
don't do it.

when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

there is no other way.

and there never was.

This week's question is: What makes up your non-human family??

My non-human friendly consists of this guy:

His name is Jebbery (pronounced like Jeffery, but with Bs), Jebbers/Jib-Jab/Jeb for short.
He is a Beagle/Basset Hound mix.

I got him for my 22nd birthday, and will have had him for a year on January 20th.

He is a rescue dog from the Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue (WARNING: don't view webpage unless you're yearning for a puppy.  They tug at your heart), and I could not have gotten a better dog.  My sister and I went to an adoption event with a different dog in mind, who turned out to be a little too hyper for us.  But as we were walking to leave, Jeb nudged up against my leg and I immediately fell in love.

God gave Jeb to me that day, and I thank him for it always.

Follow Friday....on Saturday!

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee at Parajunkee's View.  It is an awesome opportunity to network other book blogs.  Here's a blurb about it from her site!

This week's question is: What book(s) have you discovered lately from someone's book blog?

Since I've gotten involved with book blogging, I've found so many!  But I think the one I'm excited about the most right now is Wither by Lauren DeStefano.  It just sounds so awesome.  Summary!
Thanks to modern science, every human being has become a ticking genetic time bomb—males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out.

When sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by the Gatherers to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Despite her husband Linden's genuine love for her, and a tenuous trust among her sister wives, Rhine has one purpose: to escape—to find her twin brother and go home.

But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden's eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to break free, in the limted time she has left.     (Goodreads)

What have you all discovered from other blogs?  Let me now in the comments and DFTBA!
