"Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself."— John Green

Back to School Book Blast [Giveaway]!

I always love this time of the year because it is back to school for most of the U.S!

Back to school as a kid was always my favorite time of year because I got new clothes, new supplies, and best of all, new books!  My parents always let me get two new books to start the year off, and I've kept the habit (nowadays the limit is definitely more than two!).

So as I have some extra copies of some of my favorite books that I got from ALA, I figured I'd share the tradition with all of you in honor of a happy start of the beginning of the new school year.

Now, you don't have to still be in school to enter!  I have been fully done with my Masters for 2 years now, and I still love me some school.  So if you're young, old, graduated, or just starting off, check out the seven books I have in store for one lucky winner to set them up just right for the new school year!

I'm Taking a Break!

Hey my lovely readers!  I unfortunately have to go on a teeny hiatus as university is kicking my butt, and I am super behind in reviews!  But don't despair, I will be back in two weeks with (hopefully ; )) more content for all of you!

Thanks for sticking around and making my blog better!  Don't forget to be awesome!

Eli to the nth is on Hiatus!

Until further notice, I will not be posting my regular features (of course you might have already noticed that).  I have to catch up on uni stuff so I don't fail out of grad school.  But this isn't concrete, so depending on my free time I may post some stuff (definitely some reviews are coming), but nothing regularly!  I hope you are all having a great day wherever you are, and don't forget to be awesome!

 A Football Player's Guide to Love
By the Argyle West Football Team

"Love.  Well, you see it's, uh, sort of, you know, kinda like when...Hey, can we talk about this later?"

Love, Football, and Other Contact Sports is another book that I discovered while making my reading list for my Books & Related Materials for Young Adults class.  It was one of the books listed under the Sports column that we could pick for our list.  Sports is not a genre I often read.  I suppose it's cliche to say it's because I'm a girl, but I've never had a lot of interest in sports.  But the title caught my interest with the world LOVE!  And so far it is very funny!  I'd suggest this book, if, like me, you don't read many Sports books; it will change your mind.

         As we walk, I roll the sleeves of my gown to my elbows, the soft linen creasing easily in the crook of my arm.  Then I unlace the cording at the neckline of my dress–one firm tug and my shoulders are bared!
         "Roz, that is scandalous!"
         "No more scandalous than this mischief we are about,"  I remind her.  "God's truth, it is so hot that I am a mere moment from removing my garters and hose!  These clothes are more constricting than the rules we ladies must abide!"

Romeo's Ex: Rosaline's Story is a book I discovered while making my reading list for my Books & Related Materials for Young Adults class.  It was one of the books listed under the Historical Fiction column that we could pick from for our list.  I'm excited to read it, because if you checked out my Top Ten Tuesday for this week, you'd know that I LOVE re-tellings/re-mixes of stories.  The fact that Lisa has re-told the tale of Romeo & Juliet from Rosaline's perspective makes me really excited to finish the book!

Poetry Sunday (07)

This is a fabulous new blog feature here at Eli to the nth!  Thanks to Genna from Reading, Writing, and the World of Words, who created this awesome feature and gave me the permission to host it here, as well as, use her cute graphic!  Poetry is one of my passions, but I have yet to share it here.  So this feature gives me the perfect opportunity to do so!

This week I'm concentrating on the future.  I will be graduating from university in 18 days, and I now have to go be an adult (which blows by the way).  Since April is National Poetry Month, I figured it would be a good time to gather some inspiration from some great poets.

Today We Make the Poet's Words Our Own
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

To-day we make the poet's words our own,
And utter them in plaintive undertone;
Nor to the living only be they said,
But to the other living called the dead,
Whose dear, paternal images appear
Not wrapped in gloom, but robed in sunshine here;
Whose simple lives, complete and without flaw,
Were part and parcel of great Nature's law;
Who said not to their Lord, as if afraid,
"Here is thy talent in a napkin laid,"
But labored in their sphere, as men who live
In the delight that work alone can give.
Peace be to them; eternal peace and rest,
And the fulfillment of the great behest:
"Ye have been faithful over a few things,
Over ten cities shall ye reign as kings."

Follow Friday (03)

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee at Parajunkee's View.  It is an awesome opportunity to network other book blogs.  Here's a blurb about it from her site!
Hi, welcome to Follow Friday! Let me tell you what is going on today. First PJV will be featuring one blogger from this great community each Friday along with having the Follow My Book Blog feature. Each week one blogger will be selected as a feature, so sign up for the Follow Feature. Future features are picked randomly.

This week's question is:

What is/was your favorite subject in school?

I love English so much, I'm studying Secondary English Education at University.

Of course, I'm going a little crazy in my internship right now.  But still.  Love it.
